According to data from the Angus Reid Institute, two out of three Canadians say they approve of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s performance.

Not one year after taking the country’s top spot, the PM has the support of 65 per cent of the people.

At this point, his approval rating is the highest it’s been since he took office last November.

For comparison, Stephen Harper never had the approval of more than two-fifths of Canadians at any point in his majority mandate. His peak approval rating – 42 per cent – came in December 2014.

With Trudeau’s approval, comes a little less anxiety about the economy, Canadians say. More people were also likely to report that their standard of living has improved in the past 12 months, compared to the past four years.

Still, people are twice as likely to stay their standard of living has worsened, especially for those living in provinces dependent on the oil and energy markets.

On the other hand, Canadians report increasing satisfaction with the health care system, relations between the federal and provincial governments, and foreign policy

Canadians seem to be swayed by Trudeau’s public appearances at events like the pride parades across the country and the Tragically Hip concert.

In opposition, Conservative party interim leader Rona Ambrose has the approval of 32 per cent of Canadians, with the majority from Alberta.
