UPDATE: Calgary police aren’t exactly yet sure why Mylan Hicks was shot.

At a press conference today, Insp. Don Coleman said Hicks was killed outside the Marquee Beer Market at around 2:30 a.m, in an incident that likely stemmed from a confrontation inside the bar.

He said an altercation took place inside, and continued out front once the bar closed. Coleman said it appears the confrontation escalated until shots were fired, but that police aren’t sure if Hicks was targeted specifically.

“We’re not sure what the intent of the rounds being fired were,” he said.

Hicks was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after the incident, but died a short time later.

Police say they have a suspect in custody, after they arrested three men in connection with the incident, one of whom is known to them.

He said an autopsy will be conducted on Hicks tomorrow.
