A nationwide settlement has been reached in the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal.

Both Quebec and Ontario courts have granted approval of the nationwide settlement agreement to resolve the consumer claims that affected approximately 105,000 vehicles.

"Approval of the settlement is an important milestone in our journey to making things right in Canada,” said Volkswagen Group Canada CEO, Maria Stenstroem. “Volkswagen Group Canada is committed to ensuring that the settlement program is carried out as conveniently as possible for our affected Volkswagen and Audi 2.0L TDI customers.

Eligible owners and lessees of Volkswagen and Audi 2.0L TDI vehicles will be entitled to receive cash payments.

The 2009-2015 Jetta, 2009 Jetta Wagon, 2010-2013 and 2015 Golf, 2012-2015 Passat, 2013-2015 Beetle, 2010-2014 Golf Wagon and 2015 Golf Sportswagon are all included in the settlement, as well as the 2010-2013 and 2015 Audi A3.

Those payments will range from $5,100 to $8,000, depending on a person’s make and model.

Starting on Friday at 9 a.m., the online claims portal will be available to submit claims if you’re affected by the settlement.

The link will be posted to the Volkswagen Canada settlement website, where you can also find more details on the settlement.
