If you’ve played hockey in your life, there’s a good chance that you’ve used Bauer equipment.
Whether it’s your skates, stick, helmet, gloves or anything in between, Bauer is one of leading manufacturers of hockey gear and synonymous with hockey in Canada.
However, like many Canadian businesses, the company has taken a break from producing regular products during these trying times and turned its attention to trying to help.
“Producing protective equipment that allows athletes to give everything for their team is our heritage. Right now, we're all playing for the same team,” said a Facebook post from Bauer.
“We're repurposing our production facilities to make face shields so that medical professionals battling COVID-19 can safely continue to help those most vulnerable.”
These medical shields are worn along with regular medical masks that cover the nose and mouth, offering medical professionals complete facial protection.
The company has already had orders for 100,000 units come in from across Canada and it’ll be looking to provide for the United States as well, once the word gets out.
According to the company’s CEO, the masks will cost about $3 and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis based on demand.
The company will not be making a profit on this production, which is happening at their Quebec factory.
