Mexican authorities have found a body near the resort where a missing Quebec woman was vacationing.

The body is believed to be Christine St. Onge, who was last heard from on Dec. 4.

It was found near a hotel in Los Cabos and showed marks of violence.

St. Onge was travelling with a male friend, who returned home a day earlier than planned and died of an apparent suicide once arriving back home.

Meanwhile, an autopsy will be performed to confirm that the body found in Mexico is that of the 41-year-old St. Onge.

Sgt. Claude Denis of the Quebec provincial police says the woman’s family has been informed of the latest developments.

St. Onge, a travel agent from Laval, left for Mexico on Nov. 29 with her friend and was scheduled to return to Canada on Dec. 6.
