Calgary man wanted Canada-wide for murder

A man wanted for first-degree murder is believed to have fled the city and a Canada-wide warrant has now been issued for his arrest.

Abderrahmane (Adam) Bettahar is wanted in regards to a suspicious death that occured in Marlborough Park, a neighbourhood in northeast Calgary.

A woman in her 20s was found dead in the backyard of a house around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Evidence at the scene led police to believe the death is suspicious and the homicide unit took over the investigation.

Investigators quickly labelled Bettahar as a person of interest and have now honed in on him as the prime suspect in this case.

Bettahar is a 21-year-old man with a slim build, light skin, brown hair and brown eyes, standing about 6’0” tall.

He’s believed to be driving a 2004 dark blue Ford Explorer with the Alberta license plate BZH 5688.

Calgary Police Service warns that Bettahar should not be approached and anyone with information is asked to contact the homicide unit tip line at 403-428-8877.

The victim’s identity won’t be released until an autopsy is performed today.
