Prime Minister Justin Trudeau just announced 5,800 new jobs for middle-class Canadians and more than $1 billion in contracts and deals with the new Canada-India investment partnership.

Trudeau met with business leaders, including CEO of Infosys, Salil Parekh, at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai today to create the deal.

“As one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, India offers exciting opportunities for Canadian businesses of all sizes. The partnerships announced today will create thousands of good, middle-class jobs for Canadians, and are further proof of the ever-growing ties between our two countries,” said Trudeau.

Infosys is India's second largest IT company based on revenue.

While Canada aims to invest $750 million in India, India's IT companies plan to invest $250 million in Canada over the years.

The deal will cover a range of sectors, including film, infrastructure, information, technology and clean technology, aerospace, research and development.

Following the new partnership, Trudeau also met with leaders in a roundtable on women in business.

Canada's merchandise exports in India totalled $4.18 billion in 2017.
