It’s been three days since Canada’s capital region was hit by destructive tornadoes and residents now have to start the difficult task of rebuilding their lives.
Hundreds of people in Gatineau haven’t been able to return home yet, which thousands of people in the Ottawa suburb of Nepean are still without power.
Thankfully, hydro crews have worked around the clock to restore power to most of the city’s electrical grid at this point.
Ottawa schools remain shuttered today and civil servants are working from home.
They’ve been asked to stay off the roads because hundreds of traffic signals remain without power today.
Jim Watson, Ottawa’s mayor, expects that the city will see a return to a semblance of normalcy by Tuesday.
However, many residents won’t get back to their normal lives for quite some time.
Several homes are lost or at least significantly damaged and there are fears that the situation could get worse later this week with forecasts of rain on the horizon
