A voluntary recall has been issued for an electric bicycle due to an issue that presents a crash hazard.

The Stromer ST5 pedal-assist electric bicycle is being recalled due to an issue with the bicycle stem breaking, posing a crash hazard to the rider.

The recall involves all Stromer ST5 pedal-assisted bicycles sold in a black or gray aluminum frame.

Only seven units of the affected product have been sold nationally. As of May 17, 2019 the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

All Stromer ST5s produced before February 6, 2019, are affected (VIN nos. TBNST5S700SJA0001 to TBNST5S700SKF0065). According to the company’s website, they are only aware of isolated cases where there has been a break in the stem.

Owners are requested to discontinue use of their ST5 and to bring it immediately to their Stromer dealer so that he can make the stem replacement. A list of specialist dealers who can carry out the stem replacement can be found here.
