Big news in the Canadian retail world arrived Thursday with the announcement that all 37 Home Outfitters locations across Canada will close in 2019.

Hudson’s Bay Company broke the news by releasing a statement saying “these actions are part of the company’s strategic plan to reduce costs, simplify the business and improve overall profitability.”

B.C. hosts several Home Outfitters locations in Kelowna, Langley, Coquitlam, Victoria, and North Nanaimo.

According to HBC’s chief executive officer Helena Foulkes, the company will work to find opportunities within HBC for those employees impacted by the closures.

Earlier this week, Payless ShoeSource announced the company will be closing its 248 store locations across North America after 60 years of business.
