A Canadian man accused of being a neo-Nazi before disappearing in August 2019 has finally been arrested.

The former Canadian military reservist was arrested by the FBI in Delaware this morning.

Patrik Matthews was a combat engineer with the 38 Canadian Brigade Group in Winnipeg before disappearing on Aug. 24, 2019 as he was being fast-tracked out of the military.

He had links to a right-wing group called The Base and was officially discharged from the military on Aug. 30, 2019, nearly a week after he went missing.

Shortly after his disappearance, his truck was found abandoned on a rural property in southern Manitoba, near the border, which led police to believe he had entered the US.

Although a number of weapons were seized from his home in Beausejour, Man., Mounties said they were treating his disappearance like any other missing-person case and no arrest warrant was issued.

It remains unclear what Matthews was doing in the US and who, if anyone, he was meeting with.
