The GoFundMe campaign for the Humboldt Broncos has been nothing short of amazing.
In the wake of one of the darkest days in Canadian history, people from across the country and beyond stepped up in a major way, showing what it truly means to be Canadian.
With donations in excess of $12 million, the Humboldt Broncos finally revealed what would happen with all the funds with an announcement from team president Kevin Garinger on Monday.
Garinger expressed its “tremendous love and sincere gratitude” to all who donated time and money to support the organization and its families.
He also expressed gratitude towards Sylvie Kellington, the Humboldt resident who quickly set up the GoFundMe campaign after the April 6 tragedy.
As for that campaign, Garinger revealed that it would be taken offline on Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. MST and the following steps would then take place.
The funds donated through the GoFundMe campaign will be transferred to a newly created non-profit corporation known as “Humboldt Broncos Memorial Fund Inc.” to be allocated for their intended purpose. An advisory committee is being established to make a recommendation for the allocation of these funds, which will be held in trust until that allocation occurs. Once we have formalized the composition of this committee, we will provide you with an update.
The team has also created the HumboldtStrong Community Foundation, which will support Broncos’ players, employees, families and volunteers in the wake of the unthinkable events of April 6.
The foundation will also support first responders, emergency services personnel, related organizations, communities and other SJHL teams and athletes who have been affected.
