Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has issued a major recall that affects 4.8 million vehicles.
The recall is to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging.
If the error is to occur, drivers may be able to stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal, at which point the vehicle could be placed into park once stopped.
Other options include shifting the transmission into neutral or forcefully applying the manual brake.
However, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is suggesting that vehicle owners stop using cruise control until their vehicle is repaired.
