Vancouver based company Saje Natural Wellness has announced a product recall.

The company has advised customers not to use Splish Splash Gentle Baby Wash because it may contain the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention:

“Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen that causes infection and results in bacteria in the blood, particularly in individuals with compromised immune systems.

Healthy people can also develop mild illnesses with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, especially after exposure to water.  Ear infections, especially in children, and more generalized skin rashes may occur after exposure to inadequately chlorinated hot tubs or swimming pools. Eye infections have occasionally been reported in persons using extended-wear contact lenses."

According to the company,  three cases of allergic rashes or itching have been reported by customers, prompting Chief Product & Creative Officer Kiara LeBlanc to issue the following statement:

“On behalf of Saje, I wholeheartedly apologize for potentially putting you or your loved ones at risk. I remain committed to our mission of global wellness and am dedicated to upholding the highest quality standards for our community.”

The wash, which comes in 250 ml and 50 ml packages, can be found in the following products.

The product has been distributed to its retail locations in provinces across Canada, including British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

Anyone who has received or purchased the baby wash in any size or format is asked to return the product to a retail outlet for a full refund.
