Vancouver is out, along with nine other Canadian cities who put their hat in the ring to become the host of Amazon's HQ2.

Amazon released its shortlist of 20 locations on Thursday and Toronto is the only Canadian city being considered.

The online company has been deliberating over its second location since it received the 238 proposals in October 2017.

The 20 locations besides Toronto include a range of cities from all corners of the U.S., such as Los Angeles, Denver, Dallas, Miami, Philadelphia, New York City and Boston to name a few.

Amazon is expected to invest $5 billion in construction and create 50,000 jobs through the second headquarters.

The company's criteria for HQ2 requires an area with more than one million people in a stable and business-friendly environment.

It must be able to attract and retain strong technical talent, as well as provide creative and viable real estate options.

Amazon has said it will make its final decision sometime in 2018.

Toronto has a population of 2.8 million.
