“It don’t mean a thing, if you ain’t got that swing,” commented Alice Barker as she watched herself dance the night away for the first time on film.
Barker was a chorus line dancer during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1930s and 40s and she recently celebrated her 102nd birthday.
She danced at well-known clubs such as the Apollo, Cotton Club, and world-renowned Zanzibar, but she has never seen herself on film.
Reminiscing in the past, Barker appeared bewildered yet excited with her trip down memory lane.
Alongside legends such as Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, and Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Barker tapped, sashayed, and boogied to classical tunes of the time.
“Making me wish that I could get out of this bed and do it all over again,” said Barker when asked how the video made her feel.
