Beautiful isn’t it? Kelowna, B.C. is a city rich in gorgeous landscapes, with crystal clear lakes, rolling mountains, and stunning views from around the city. Our spectacular city is well-known as a four-season playground, and people around the world visit each year to enjoy the endless adventures and breathtaking scenery.

Residents of Kelowna take great pride in this city and do what they can to keep Kelowna beautiful. A key component of this effort starts at home when residents choose to recycle packaging and printed paper. Recycling plastic, metal, foam, and paper packaging, such as cartons, coffee cups, aerosol and other metal cans, and takeout containers can help to reduce greenhouse gases by allowing for the re-use of our limited resources in place of the energy-intensive processes of mining, logging, extracting oil and gas, and producing the same packaging or product from raw materials.

According to a 2016 report by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, globally only 14% of plastics are collected for recycling. What happens to the rest? Around 40% end up in landfills and 32% are "leaked" into the environment, including oceans and other waterways. By 2050, the report predicts, there will be more plastic in the world’s oceans than fish.

By recycling, Kelowna residents are not only keeping our natural landscape clean and stunningly pristine, but we're are also doing our part to help prevent plastics from ending up in BC’s natural parks, lakes, and forests.

Multi Material BC works hard to educate on the topic of recycling and provides plenty of great information about products that can and cannot be recycled in our community. You can visit recyclinginbc.ca to learn more and to find out how you can contribute to keeping Kelowna beautiful.
