Pretty much everyone in Kelowna knows about COG, and most of you are probably already aware of this year’s stacked lineup. While the awesome live music definitely attracts hip-hop and electronic fans from all over, it’s not all that the festival has to offer.

Here are a few reasons why you should add COG to your bucket list this summer (if you haven’t already, that is).

The sports are a blast

Center of Gravity has always been about a combination of the beach, music and awesome live sports.

The sports are still an integral part of the festival, with new events being added over the years. Whether you like to participate by joining a team, or just enjoy spectating with your friends, the sports at COG are an adrenaline rush.

Beach volleyball, basketball, BMX and motocross are all COG staples, and this year, attendees will have a couple of new sporting events to enjoy - rugby and axe throwing.

That’s right, rugby fans - this is a new addition to the festival this year as COG will be the first stop on BC Rugby’s Summer Sevens Series.

Axe-throwing is a new event for the festival this year as well, and the cool thing is that anyone can partake. It costs $15 for 15 throws (5 practice throws, and 10 counting throws), with the possibility to win prizes.

It’s a foodie’s paradise

Is it weird to go to a festival mainly for the food? We don’t think so, especially with options like the ones at COG.

You’ll never have to worry about going hungry at the festival as there is a large selection of tasty, affordable items on site, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

This year’s food vendors include Surf Side Tacos, Mountain Squeeze, Rustixx Wood Fired Pizza, X-Treme Food Group, Smoke’s Poutinerie, B.A.D. Company, Cin City Donuts, Twisted Lemon, The Rockin’ Wok, ParadICE, Kal Side Grill, Rollies Roadhouse and Pasta Masta. Hungry yet?

You can shop ‘til you drop

If you ever need a break from the music and crowds, just head on down to the vendors to do a little shopping! You’ll find unique, local items and, if you’re lucky, some free SWAG!

Looking for that little something extra to add to your festival look? You’ll find it here!

This year’s lineup is pretty impressive, including vendors like Basix Boutique, The Bumwrap, Wild Abandon Jewelry and many more. You can view the full vendor list here.

Oh yeah, and KelownaNow will be there too, so come and say hi!

Life’s a beach

If you’re thinking of traveling to COG from out of town, then the beaches, awesome weather and pretty landscapes are pretty dang convincing on their own.

Cool off in the Okanagan Lake, take photos with friends in front of a beautiful, mountainous backdrop and catch some serious rays. Bathing suits are common attire in Kelowna in the summertime, and be sure not to forget the sunscreen.

Even for locals, what better way to enjoy one of the hottest weekends of the year than by jamming out to some tunes with friends at a beach, just a few minutes away from home? Not too shabby.

It’s all about the vibes

Festivals are all about the vibes, and COG’s not lacking in that department. The energy is high, the outfits are on point and you can tell everyone is just there to have a good time, make friends and enjoy summer.

Convinced yet? To learn more and to purchase tickets, head over to Center of Gravity’s website. You can also enter to win two VIP tickets on our Instagram contest which closes on Friday, July 20th - click here for the deets and to enter.

We hope to see you there!
