When you’re busy raising kids, keeping a household in order, and even pursuing a passion or career all at the same time, self-care tends to get put on the backburner. Finding time for the occasional yoga class, nature walk or Netflix show can be a challenge — let alone a day of pampering at the salon.

Crimson Hair Salon wanted to recognize a few of the hardworking and selfless moms out there by offering them just that — a day of pampering! The salon ran a Mother’s Day Contest on their Facebook page where people could nominate their moms to win a makeover.

Here are the lucky winners, and the results of their makeovers courtesy of Crimson Hair Salon.

Winner: Gwen Feist

Makeup: Brianne Bennett @briannebennettbeauty
Hair: Mataya Ball @matayagfb
Experience Rating: 5/5

Gwen was nominated to win the makeover by her daughter. Her favourite thing about being a mom is the unconditional love that she feels, and her advice to new mothers is to enjoy every moment because it goes by fast!

“For the makeup, we went for a natural bronze glam,” said Brianne Bennet, makeup artist. “I wanted to accentuate her gorgeous cheekbones and eyes!”

“Gwen was an all-over bleach so we really wanted to break that up and add dimension,” said hair stylist Mataya Ball. “We did a full head of highlights and a few lowlights off a beautiful beige. The result was a gorgeous, dimensional beachy blonde perfect for summer.”

Gwen really enjoyed the overall makeover experience.

“So fun, busy, great atmosphere. I couldn’t stop smiling!” said Gwen. “This is my new home-away-from-home, my happy place!”

Winner: Victoria Bruyere

Makeup: Bailey Strand @baileystrandmua
Hair: Roxy Chahley @roxthaafox
Experience Rating: 5/5

Victoria was also nominated by her daughter. Victoria’s favourite thing about being a mother has been watching her daughter grow into an amazing mother, too. Her advice to new mothers reflects Gwen’s: “Enjoy every moment, they grow so fast!”

“We decided to try something Victoria hadn’t tried before,” said Bailey, makeup artist. “She typically wore brown warm tones on her eyes. So we decided to switch it up and play with more cool tones.”

“Victoria already came in with gorgeous long hair and a natural color. We decided to enhance her chocolate brown hair with some subtle, sunkissed balayage,” said Roxy, hair stylist. “For her cut, we are keeping the length while freshening up her layers and lightening up the weight of it all to give her long mane some bounce.”

What did Victoria have to say about her makeover experience? “Amazing — thank you all so much.”

Winner: Rebecca Watkins

Makeup: Bailey Strand @baileystrandmua
Hair: Lindsey Day @lengthsbylindsey_
Experience Rating: 5/5

Rebecca was looking forward to the makeover to feel beautiful both inside and out. Her favourite thing about being a mother is the affection that you receive from your kids just because, and the moments when they are so proud of themselves. Her advice to new mothers is not to second guess yourself, because a mother knows best!

“We did a subtle smokey eye on Rebecca, playing up the natural colours of her eyes with warm tones,” said Bailey. “Her cheekbones are the shining features — we did a soft contour and a pop of blush on the cheeks.”

“Rebecca has a full head of brunette hair. We wanted to add some soft blonde, caramel balayage tones to add some dimension and sunkissed glow for the summer,” said hair stylist Lindsey Day. “It brightened up her face and made her hair look more naturally highlighted.”

“The experience was absolutely amazing,” said Rebecca. “The staff made this a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!”

Winner: Rhonda Gilroy

Makeup: Bailey Strand @baileystrandmua
Hair: Saideh Talarizadeh @borrisemo_style
Experience Rating: 5/5

Rhonda was nominated by her adopted daughter, and thought it was a wonderful surprise. Her favourite thing about being a mother is all the memories of their childhood, and her advice to new mothers is to enjoy every minute.

“Rhonda didn’t typically wear makeup. We kept the look natural and really played up her eyes with natural tones,” said Bailey. “The tone of the look is all on the lips! A bright creamy red to bring out her smile.”

“Rhonda is blessed with a beautiful, thick head of hair. Her previous haircut did not have a good blend and shape so it did not support her final goal of the hairstyle she wanted. I blended the hair especially in the back of the head where there was a weight line,” said Saideh Talarizadeh, hair stylist. “I softened the sides and shaped them and left the top part long as she had asked for. Rhonda already had her natural hair with some highlighted pieces. Once we cut her hair into the proper shape the colour took on a brighter look so we didn’t need to colour it.”

Rhonda also enjoyed her time at the salon.

“It was fantastic! Everyone is very inviting.”

Winner: Kristy Kews

Makeup: Brianne Bennett @briannebennettbeauty
Hair: Josh Brisson @creativeblonde.jb
Experience Rating: 5/5

Kristy was looking forward to a makeover, hoping it would make her feel as special as she tries to make her kids feel everyday. Her favourite thing about being a mother are the bedtime cuddles and hearing ‘I love you’, and her advice is to “enjoy the good times, treat them and know the hard times will quickly pass.”

“She was hoping to do something to match her brighter hair so we went bronzey and glowing,” said Brianne. “A very summer look!”

“We decided to brighten up her whole look! Baby foils around her face then placement foils all over to lighten up her over all hair tone,” said Josh Brisson, hair stylist. “We stayed on the cool side of thing using an ashy toner. Kristy really enjoyed her new look.”

Kristy said that the experience was amazing and relaxing.

“Love the space, the staff and the talent. Thank you!”

Winner: Audra Turner

Makeup: Brianne Bennett @briannebennettbeauty
Hair: Tara Sebastianis @crimsonhairsalon
Experience Rating: 5/5

Audra was nominated for the makeover by her daughter, and her favourite thing about being a mother is that she now has two grandkids to spoil. Her advice to new mothers is to remember that the difficult times will all be worth it in the end!

“Audra said she typically doesn’t wear a ton of makeup so we just went simple with a bolder lip,” said Brianne. “It isn’t something she would normally do, but we wanted to try something a little out of her comfort zone.”

“Audra was very dark and wanted something new. We did a full head of highlights to lift an all over box colour. I was very happy with the results we achieved today considering it was a little bit of a colour correction and going from black to blonde is not a one-service fix,” said Tara Sebastianis, hairstylist and owner of Crimson Hair Salon. “We will be able to go to a lighter blonde in the next couple services. This will be easier to maintain with her re-growth being lighter with some natural silver pieces, the highlights will blend everything together. Plus a much softer compaction against her skin tone and summer.”

“The experience was amazing,” said Audra. “Tara is wonderful and she made me look and feel fabulous!”
