In October 2019, Guerard’s Fine Furniture celebrated its 74th anniversary in a Get Local feature with PentictonNow that revealed some fascinating family history linked to a monumental moment in Canadian history.

In the spring of 1971, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Anne visited BC to mark the centenary anniversary of the confederation of the province.

During the Penticton leg of the Royal Tour, the founder of Guerard’s Fine Furniture, William “Bill” Guerard, staged a tea room at the Peach Bowl, which at the time, was the original Trade and Convention Centre in Penticton. This kind gesture allowed Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Phillip and Princess Anne to take a break from what must have been a very tedious schedule and have some tea.

After all these years, descendants of that royal lineage have come to Western Canada and so KelownaNow, along with the third-generation owner of Guerard’s Fine Furniture, Trevor Guerard, are seizing the opportunity to get the #RoyalsinPenticton.

In light of the recent reports that Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their son, Archie, will split time between the UK and Canada, Guerard's recreated the tea room in their modern showroom to welcome the royal family back to Penticton and visit where Prince Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, had tea in 1971.

This modern tea room was designed by Guerard’s certified interior decorators to reflect Canadian hospitality.

To accomplish this ambitious goal, Guerard’s remains hopeful that this modern tea room can give the royal family a break from their busy schedule too.

But we need your help to get the #RoyalsinPenticton.

We need you to come see the modern tea room, take a picture and help us get the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to the Okanagan.

What’s in it for you? The entire tea room!

That’s right. If you help us get the #RoyalsinPenticton and into Guerard’s, you’ll win the furniture and accessories in the modern tea room, a total approximate value of $15,500. Better yet, Guerard’s will order everything in brand new!

The royal prize:

To enter to win the furniture and accessories in the modern tea room, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Guerard's, located in downtown Penticton
  2. Take a picture in the tea room
  3. Post your picture on social media with the hashtag #RoyalsinPenticton

With your help, we can create a social media frenzy that's worthy of royal attention. Will you join us in inviting the royals to Penticton?

Follow these steps or simply use the hashtag to tell them what you love about the Okanagan and where to go during their visit.

If we can pull this off, it'll garner national attention to our community.

By helping this generational family business in Penticton do something that many may think is too wild to work, people who travel from Kelowna to Penticton will get a redeemable gas travel voucher worth $25 and free delivery from Penticton to Kelowna with any purchase over $2,500!

And who knows, maybe the day you visit is the day the royal family makes their appearance.

After the royals, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, visit Guerard's Fine Furniture in Penticton, Trevor Guerard and KelownaNow will randomly select a winner from the users who followed the steps and used the hashtag #RoyalsinPenticton. That's it, that's all. We'll close the contest and pick one winner. Hopefully, that's sooner rather than later.

To get the royal’s attention, tag them on Instagram @sussexroyal, Tweet at them using the Royal Family Twitter account @RoyalFamily, create a Facebook event, use Tik Tok, make a sign, write a letter, send a carrier pigeon… whatever it takes to prove Madonna wrong

Sorry, but Canada is not boring.

This is our chance to make history and showcase a generational family-owned business known for quality home furniture and décor.

To claim your $25 voucher, make a trip to Penticton (conditions apply), shop Guerard’s Fine Furniture and while you're there, post a picture in the tea room with the hashtag #RoyalsinPenticton.
