“Do the best you can until you know better, and then when you know better, do better.”

That quote by renowned activist, writer, poet, actress and university professor Maya Angelou was on the first slide of a presentation Dr. Jordan Sanders gave his team on the first day of training at Knox Mountain Dentistry.

“It was foundational for us as an office,” said Dr. Sanders, who owns and operates the practice with Dr. Lindsay Balfour.

“We always strive to do the best care possible for our patients. We are fundamentally a practice that takes a human-based approach. We acknowledge that what we do is personal, intimate and sometimes highly fear-inducing and we take every step to meet the individual needs of our patients head-on.”

While recognizing that going to the dentist is terrifying for some people (try sedation dentistry), the team at Knox Mountain Dentistry invites everyone – regardless of level of fear – to come in for the positive vibe, advanced technology and amenities and then stay for the exceptional service.

“Our goal is to create a tailored experience that breaks any preconceived idea our patients have about what dental care looks like,” says Dr. Balfour.

“We want them to walk out feeling informed and empowered to make the decisions about their care and what is right for them.”

As such, Knox Mountain Dentistry’s patient roster is diverse – families, children, the elderly and everyone in between.

The practice offers a safe space for LGBTQ2+, neurodiverse individuals and those with that aforementioned fear of dental work.

“I find joy in the smiles I help create and the lives I positively impact,” says Dr. Sanders.

“There’s a connection I share with my patients as they entrust me with their oral health. I cherish the opportunity to alleviate their pain, restore their confidence and enhance their overall well-being.Witnessing a patient’s transformation from apprehension to relief in the dental chair is incredibly gratifying.”

Modern dentistry is driven by rapidly changing technology and the latest techniques, but at its core, it’s still a people business.

“Every day in the office is a unique and rewarding experience.” says Dr. Balfour.

“Dentistry isn’t just a procession for me, it’s a vocation that allows me to combine my love for science and my desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.”

Knox Mountain Dentistry is one of Kelowna’s newest dental practices, located at 740 Clement Ave., and both Dr. Sanders and Dr. Balfour are young dentists.

As such, the dentists have long, rewarding careers in front of them.

“We are really excited to treat families throughout their lives,” says Dr. Sanders.
