The HM Commercial Ride for Autism, presented by Nicola Wealth, is an annual charitable tradition in Kelowna. Last year’s ride brought in over $150,000 in support of Canucks Autism Network (CAN) programs and training initiatives in Kelowna.
Biking enthusiasts, wine/cider lovers, and autism supporters alike are invited to tour local wineries, cideries and orchards on Saturday, May 14.
New this year, Wicked Wine Tours will be offering a shuttle for participants who are unable to bike or prefer not to bike but still want to support the cause. Additionally, Stober Foundation has stepped up in a big way by generously committing to match all funds raised, up to $100,000!
Registration is $150 per person and participants can either ride solo or in a team of up to eight people. The event is for cyclists of all abilities, with riders choosing the length of their route and the number of wineries and cideries they want to hit. E-bikes are also welcome this year!
With staggered start times between 2:00 and 2:30 pm, riders will begin and end their routes at stunning Kitsch Wines. Post-ride, participants will be treated to an orchard picnic while taking in the live vocals of singer-songwriter, Joshua Smith.
Participating wineries this year include Kitsch Wines, The Vibrant Vine, The View Winery, Meadow Vista Honey Wines, Spearhead Winery, Priest Creek Family Estate Winery, Soma Cidery, and more to come!
Proceeds will benefit Canucks Autism Network (CAN)’s efforts to support the autism community in Kelowna. Since launching programs in Kelowna eight years ago, hundreds of local families have benefited from CAN’s weekly sports and rec programs, summer day camps, youth and adult opportunities and family experiences. Beyond programming, CAN has delivered autism training to local community groups like Kelowna International Airport (YLW), Central Okanagan School District and PacificSport Okanagan.
CAN’s vision is for every individual on the autism spectrum to be understood, accepted and supported in all community spaces. With 1 in 32 children diagnosed with autism in BC, and over 1,000 in the Okanagan alone, the need for support is greater than ever.
