Every year, the Sunrise Rotary Club holds fundraisers to help improve the quality of life in our local community.  This year, our Season of Giving Calendar fundraiser will focus on our tiniest babies in the Neonatal ICU at Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) as well as vulnerable children through the Child Advocacy Centre (CAC).

“The Child Advocacy Centre is a purpose built, child centric facility that houses a specialized multidisciplinary team who responds to and investigates child maltreatment,” says Ginny Becker, Executive Director of the CAC.  The centre responds specifically to the needs of children and families impacted by child abuse and neglect.

Becker says the Season of Giving campaign came at a wonderful time. “These types of community-raised funds make our work possible. It allows us to ensure we can respond uniquely to the needs of every child and family that comes to us.” The funds being donated will go directly into ensuring that kids get the support they need.

“1 in 3 kids in BC will experience some form of abuse in their lifetime. The portion of funds being donated to CAC will go directly to ensuring that kids get the kind, compassionate care they need,” says Becker.

The second organization that the calendar is supporting is NICU at the Kelowna General Hospital.

“The focus of NICU is to provide an environment where the sickest of babies can be well cared for and their families can be welcomed and recognized as an integral part of the team,” says Bonnie Wilkie, NICU nurse educator.

Each year more than 1,600 babies are born at KGH with increasing numbers being born pre-term.

Babies from across the southern interior who are born too soon or with health complications often spend several weeks in the NICU at KGH.

“Proceeds from the Season of Giving Calendar will support the purchase of equipment, care and comfort items to ensure KGH’s tiniest patients and their families receive the world-class care they need,” says Bettina Muller, events and projects manager of the KGH Foundation.

This initiative comes at a great time for NICU, as KGH had to adjust some of its fundraising initiatives to be able to engage with donors and community partners due to the pandemic.

Muller says they are honoured to be one of the chosen beneficiaries.

“What a great opportunity to purchase a Season of Giving calendar or two, all while supporting two worthwhile causes. It goes without saying that funds raised from these calendar sales will truly make an impact for KGH’s youngest patients and for all of the children who use the services of the CAC.”

You can purchase calendars for only $20.00  (only a total of 6,000 units) at Save-On Foods 6 locations (Mission, Orchard Plaza, Glenmore, Rutland, West Kelowna and Lake Country), Kelowna General Hospital’s Gift Shop, as well as PostNet in West Kelowna.  Buy your calendar soon, before they sell out.  If you want to learn more about the fundraiser, click here
