In less than five years, and over the course of the pandemic, Travis Forman has grown his wealth management business three-fold and led the growth of a suite of private funds to over $1.2 billion in assets under management.

“We do what we say we’re going to do,” says Travis, the principal of Strategic Private Wealth Counsel and the lead developer and creator of private funds for Harbourfront Wealth Management.

“The client comes first. Recently, we did a survey and clients are over the moon.”

Forman’s specialty is a philosophy of private investments for clients that reduce volatility, but maximizes portfolio returns paired with financial and tax planning.

The unique approach has put Strategic’s advisory team on the national stage four years running.

2019 - 2021 4x National Finalist Advisor of the Year: Alternative Investments and most recently 2022 Winner! Advisory Team of the Year (under ten staff) by Wealth Professional Magazine.

Travis brought this distinctive system to Kelowna in 2020.

“One of the things I love about Kelowna is it’s one of the fastest-growing cities in the country and it pulls from inter-provincial and provincial generational wealth,” he says.

Strategic is a 100% referred business and this has translated it to being the number one growth practice at Harbourfront for four years in a row.
“No other advisory team can say this,” says Travis.

Strategic’s typical client is 45 to 60 years old, likely a business owner, and planning for and nearing retirement.

They are the investors who need complex strategy to reduce taxes and maximize investment.

“It's important to us to help Canadians see what is often overlooked,” says Travis.

"Watercooler talk is always investment focused. However, taxes are just as important as investment performance. If we can shave 6% average tax for a client it likely adds more to plan probability of success than adding 2% more to investment performance.”

As such, Strategic is changing wealth management for Canadians for the better.

“I wanted to get into finance because I knew the script changed all the time and I did not want to do something prescribed,” says Travis.

“All clients' needs are different, even if the circumstances are the same.”

As Strategic grows, it’s able to help more Canadians without sacrificing client experience.

Travis started as a teller at Royal Bank 25 years ago and was exposed to financial planning and wealth management.

He soon landed a job as a financial planner and his career skyrocketed.

“With certainty, it was the best move I have ever made,” sums up Travis.
