It’s the tiny, as well as the big victories, that propel Okanagan Veterinary Hospital.

“It’s such a reward when a pet responds well to treatment or surgery,” says Dr. Peter Woodward.

“Our Hospital's biggest reward is seeing how much we can assist our community in making a difference in our clients' lives by helping them with their family companion.”

Okanagan Veterinary Hospital has been providing such full-service, exceptional, caring, consistent and thorough services for your pet since 2002.

“At Okanagan Veterinary Hospital, we know that our patients are part of your family and we treat them with the respect and care you wish for yourself,” says Dr. Peter.

“All of our doctors perform routine elective surgeries and comprehensive dental procedures. We have a referral practice for complex surgeries with an emphasis on orthopedic procedures, pocket pets and canine reproductive services.”

We also take on a diverse array of special cases, from complicated dog and cat orthopedic surgeries; to exotic medical cases such as Australian wildlife (the hospital works closely with Kelowna’s Kangaroo Farm) and pocket pets. The team thrives on challenges and I couldn’t be prouder to work for such a fantastic hospital.”

Soft skills are also important.

The hospital front staff is managed by their lead client service representative Shawna.

Shawna’s  team is very accommodating and flexible for clients, especially during the peak of the pandemic.

“Communication with clients is important in any medical field. Our hospital team strives to ensure that our clients are provided with all necessary help and education to care for their four legged family members, “ says Dr Peter.

“People are passionate about who their veterinarian is and we strive to be peoples’ choice by building trust with not just one veterinarian, but the whole hospital team.”

In all, the hospital has 17 team members. To list a few are: founder, Dr. Marco Veenis (small animal special interest in orthopedics), Dr. Tara Trimble (small animal special interest in reproduction and orthopedics), Dr. Irene Mul (special interest in pocket pets, reproduction, surgery, ultrasounds), Dr Peter Woodward (special interest in Internal medicine/ managing veterinarian)  lead registered veterinary technician (RVT) Malia Benmore and hospital manager/RVT Rachel Wyatt.

While the most satisfying reward is always compassionately helping pets and the people who love them, there are challenges.

“It’s no secret there are financial hurdles –our economic climate is more challenging now than ever before,” says Dr. Peter.

“We want to practice the gold standard on every patient we see and sometimes this is difficult.” The team at Okanagan Veterinary Hospital is accommodating and flexible to customize a treatment plan.

We are however big proponents of pet insurance, it is important to be prepared for the unexpected.
