Thirteen people are dead and multiple others are injured following the eruption of a massive volcano in Indonesia this weekend.

According to multiple reports, the Semeru volcano in East Java erupted on Saturday. The incident saw ash spewed all over the city, forcing hundreds to evacuate their homes.

On Sunday, the National Disaster Agency confirmed that the death toll had reached 13.

Dozens of others reportedly suffered severe burns following the incident. A number of people are also still missing.

Officials say the Semeru volcano was the highest located volcano in the country. It was also next to the most densely populated island.

More to come.
