Members of  the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are dealing with a rather trying case, after a baby was discovered buried alive in Compton, California.

According to the department, the newborn girl was abandoned near a riverbed between 136th Street and Slater Avenue.

Police initially received a call on Friday, November 27th, around 4:00 p.m. from concerned neighbours who heard the baby crying in the riverbed.

During a search of the area, deputies could hear the muffled cries of a baby. The girl was eventually found buried alive under pieces of asphalt and rubble, located inside a crevice along a bike path.

Discovered wrapped in a blanket and cold to the touch, deputies promptly checked her vital signs and called the paramedics.

Believed to have been born only 36 to 48 hours prior to being found, the newborn baby is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

Although suffering through a traumatic ordeal, the authorities said the newborn is in stable condition.
