While millions of people fled the destructive path of Hurricane Irma, a few others had something else in mind.
Dozens of people up the southeast coast of Florida were arrested over the past few days for looting evacuated areas of Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

“Going to prison over a pair of sneakers is a fairly bad life choice,” said Fort Lauderdale police chief Rick Maglione. “Stay home and look after your loved ones and be thankful they are all safe.”
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department (FLPD) has been posting frequent updates on how many looters had been arrested and as of Monday that number had reached 20.
Meanwhile, the Miami Police Department (Miami PD) have been posted a picture of 10 looters sitting in a jail cell on Sunday.

They then followed that up with a picture of two looters handcuffed outside on the ground.
Arguably the best part of these arrests is that the two police departments are taking shots at the looters with some cheeky tweets.

The FLPD got in on the Twitter fun as well.
“Chief Maglione would like to congratulate Mr. Taff on being the 20th burglar caught trying to victimize our neighbors,” said a tweet from Monday, which included a picture of the looter.
With residents slowly starting to return home, the looting should be virtually over, but the Miami PD and FLPD look to have handled it as well as they could.
