Residents of the United Kingdom were shocked to learn that one of their MPs died following a stabbing in Leigh-On-Sea on Friday.
According to Essex Police, officers responded to reports of an assault on Eastwood Road just after noon. Upon arrival, officers found Sir David Amess who had suffered multiple injuries.
Despite emergency personnel responding in minutes, they could not save the man. Tragically, he died at the scene.
"The investigation is in the very early stages and is being led by officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Counter Terror Command. We made it clear at the time of the incident that we did not believe there was any immediate threat to anyone else in the area."
"It will be for investigators to determine whether or not this may have been a terrorist incident. As always they will keep an open mind."
Metropolitan Police labelled the stabbing a "terrorist incident." A 25-year-old man has since been arrested in relation to the death.
"As part of the investigation, officers are currently carrying out searches at two addresses in the London area and these are ongoing."
"It is believed that he acted alone, and we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident at this time. However, enquiries into the circumstances continue."
More to come.
