Local Film Maker Winning Animation Honours for Under the HUD

Another big awards night for a local animator. Ryan Pears and his team took Best Animated Web Series at the 2014 Vancouver Webfest Sunday. Pears, collaborating with Holly Pavlik and Travis Gingrich, have created an animated web series centred around a comedic look at the lives of two video game characters.

Called Under the HUD, the creators use motion capture technology with live actors. The Vancouver Webfest awards add to the growing industry recognition for Pears and the development team who recently took three awards at the LA Webfest being recognized for Outstanding VFX, Outstanding Theme Song and Outstanding Director.

Next up -  the Toronto Webfest at the end of the week. Pears, a 1997 OKM grad, studied film and televison at BCIT. Under the HUD has now been picked up by Frostbite, a Vancouver and Stockholm based production company
