The Ponderosa Festival in Rock Creek has been cancelled due to the wildfire raging in the area.
In a statement late Wednesday evening the festival organizers made the announcement.
“It is very sad day for all of us here at Ponderosa. Due to the circumstances surrounding the fire that started last Thursday near Rock Creek, Ponderosa Festival will not be happening this year as scheduled,” said organizers.

The regional district along with government representatives expressed concern related to public safety and has advised organizers to postpone the festival. Over 20 bands on two stages were set to play the event from August 21st to 23rd at the Rock Creek Fairgrounds.
“Due to the dynamic nature of the fire we have continued to keep a close watch on its activity and how it may impact the festival,” explained organizers. “As we have always said, we are in no position to put the safety of our guests, staff, and others at risk. We also have no intention to go against the recommendations of those who have up-to-date information on the status of the fires and who are working hard to protect the safety of those in the area.”
Organizers had previously announced that the festival would go ahead and also be a fundraiser for those affected by the devastating wildfire which is still more than 4,000 hectares in size.

Information on refunds and when the festival will be rescheduled is expected to be released in the near future.
