During the annual MTV music awards Sunday night, rapper Kanye West made an announcement that has got people talking.

While accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, West announced that in 2020 he will run for president. He then promptly dropped the microphone and walked off the stage. The announcement came after an awkward acceptance speech for the award, in which he spoke about his notorious interruption of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech six years earlier.

The rapper went on to say that he fights for artists to be recognized and explained why he had interrupted Swift six years ago.

“I sat at the Grammys and saw Justin Timberlake and Cee Lo lose; Gnarls Barkley and the FutureSex/LoveSounds album. I ain't trying to put you on blast, but I saw that man in tears. He deserved to win Album of the Year,” explained West.

Then West went on to explain that he is ‘no politician’ and that he doesn’t understand award shows, before telling everyone that he had smoked a joint before hitting the stage.

“Listen to the kids, bruh” West kept saying over and over again during the longwinded speech. He then ended his time on the stage announcing his political intentions, which sent social media into a frenzy. The reaction to West’s announcement has been greeted with applause, laughter, mockery, and head shaking.
