The Okanagan is a top contender to become the location for a major new TV series.

“We’ve already gone through a number of different channels,” said Jon Summerland, Film Commissioner for the Okanagan. “In the beginning we were against the world. ‘Where is this going to shoot? Okay, well let’s look in North Carolina, and we’ll look in the Philippines. Where is it most suited?’ We’ve now been narrowed down.”

Executives and series’ writers from the television studio are coming to the Okanagan in mid-September to look at the area themselves.

“If they do decide to shoot here,” said Summerland, “this could be seven months of work for our crew, and it could end up being continuously seven months of work.”

The Okanagan Film Commission has been waiting for this kind of opportunity. The studio in question will be looking at locations throughout the North and South Central Okanagan, as well as in Kelowna.

Currently only one state in the U.S. is vying with the Okanagan for this project. The Film Commissioner is not yet able to release the name of the series or its production studio due to confidentiality reasons.

Local film crew professionals who want to ensure that they are available for jobs on this series should register on OkanaganFilm.com. Actors can also sign up to be visible there, as well as increase their online presence by becoming a part of the Okanagan Society of Independent Filmmakers’ Cast List.
