Residents in Kamloops and Kelowna may be disappointed to hear that their favourite celebrities are not moving to the region.

Articles are making the rounds on Facebook claiming that Katy Perry is moving to Kelowna while Kevin Costner is moving to Kamloops. Unfortunately, the news is false, but the fake news articles are fooling people online.

The articles have been shared hundreds of times and duped many. But a quick search of the author or online website leads you to a dead end.

These scams have been reported to Facebook as they are popping up in communities all over North America. For example, Johnny Depp is moving to Pittsburgh and Sean Penn to Wisconsin. They are simply click bait and should be avoided if possible.

This easy research is not being done by those on Facebook who continue to share the story, over and over again. It’s a good lesson that should be passed along… don’t believe everything you read on social media, especially Facebook.
