If you are toying with the idea of heading to the theatre to check out the new live action Beauty and the Beast movie, run, don’t walk.

I was part of the Monday crowd, who would’ve thought there would be a Monday crowd?

Having heard amazing things from a few friends who went to the premiere last week I was highly anticipating a trip back to my childhood. Disney’s original Beauty and the Beast was one of my favourites growing up and the modern take on the classic was anything but a disappointment.

In case you’re not familiar with the Disney classic, released in 1991, the Beauty and the Beast storyline is centred around a young woman named Belle who is imprisoned in a castle by a Beast after a misunderstanding.

In time, she discovers that the master of the house was once a prince who, thanks to his negative attitude, was transformed into a beast by a sorceress. In turn, his servants were turned into household objects.

First of all, I’m not the biggest Emma Watson fan, but I don’t think they could’ve cast a better Belle. Her voice is stunning and her personality seemed to perfectly suit the character.

In general, the casting for the entire film was on par. Luke Evans made the perfect narcissist as Gaston and Josh Gad as his sidekick LeFou was on point.

The music in the film was a definite highlight. Watson’s voice was complimented by the rest of the cast, who all had impressive pipes themselves.

Ewan McGregor as Lumiere did an outstanding rendition of ‘Be Our Guest,’ which was part of one of the most mesmerizing scenes.

The costumes in the movie were definitely impressive, especially during the iconic ballroom scene.

I also noticed that a couple elements were added to the film to make it a little more modern. While the original animated movie depicted only caucasian characters, this time around the film was much more multicultural.

The antagonist's right hand man, LeFou, has made news around the world for what people are calling a “gay moment.” Twice in the film his sexuality is hinted at, which I think makes the historic movie a lot more inclusive to a range of people.

In other news, the new movie is officially the most expensive musical ever made (at $160 million) and is proving to be one of the highest grossing films by Disney.

In its four-day opening weekend, Beauty and the Beast made $357 million, the 13th biggest opening of all time, according to Box Office Mojo (basically behind a host of superhero movies).

Are you going to add to the rush of moviegoers? Let us know in the comments.

If you do, you might want to consider buying your tickets in advance.

I may be a harsh critic, but I give the movie eight out of ten rose petals. If you are a Disney lover, you don't want to miss out.
