Netflix can do no wrong.

Even when the streaming giant has to send a cease and desist letter, it gets glowing reviews.

This was showcased with the message they sent a Chicago bar that tried to honour the show by turning their bar into a Stranger Things themed pop-up.

Owners Danny and Doug Marks turned the Emporium Arcade Bar into an incredible homage to the hit Netflix show, but what they did wasn’t exactly legal.

The Marks didn’t get permission from Netflix to create the Stranger Things pop-up, which led to the cease and desist letter in late August.

Unlike most cease and desist letters, however, the one Netflix sent was about as nice, funny and forgiving as you can get.

After starting off the letter with a reference to the show’s classic 1980s walkie talkies, it jumps right into business, if you can even call it that.

“Look, I don’t want you to think I’m a total wastoid, and I love how much you guys love the show (just wait until you see season 2!),” the letter says. “But unless I’m living in the Upside Down, I don’t think we did a deal with you for this pop-up.”

It continues on to say the Marks are obviously creative types and surely can appreciate that it’s important for Netflix to have a say in how their fans encounter the world’s they build.

They make another reference to the show by saying they’re not going to go full Dr. Brenner on the Chicago bar, but ask for two things.

The first is that the bar not extend the pop-up past its originally planned six week run, which will end in September.

The second is that the bar ask Netflix for permission if they ever decide to do something similar to this again.

Not only was Netflix insanely cool with their cease and desist letter, but they were flexible and didn’t force the bar to shut things down immediately.

It was another brilliant move from the Netflix marketing team, something that other companies like Nutella could definitely learn from.
