A Kelowna artist is about to have her work featured in a prominent New York art gallery.
Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will have Mimi Moylan’s art on display from January 21st through February 10th, with an opening reception scheduled for January 26th.
The gallery discovered Moylan's work last year and reached out to the artist to have her work put on display.
"Last year I received an e-mail from Agora that they had come across my website and wanted me to apply and send my portfolio in," explained Moylan. "So I've been working with them since July and they've got four pieces now that will be displayed."
Moylan’s work is part of the Plurality of Expression exhibit, which will feature six other artists, none of which Moylan has met before.
"It'll be interesting to go down, meet them and explore their art and what they're doing," Moylan said, adding that the trip to New York is going to be a great chance to study different artists and what people are buying in the art world these days.
While Moylan is from right here in Kelowna, the rest of the artists in the exhibition hail from a wide range of places like Peru, Romania, Mexico and Belgium.
The group exhibition will highlight the incredible diversity of visual language that the human mind is capable of.
“Instead of any one artists creating pieces in a traditional or characteristic style of their home, this group represents the ever-increasing globalization of our world,” the gallery said in a statement. “Each artist shows knowledge of old and new techniques and local and foreign aesthetics.”
Moylan’s style involves acrylic paint and wood burning techniques, which help her to build sharp, graphic images.
A lot of her work is landscapes inspired by the beautiful Okanagan Valley, but she also does a lot of mandalas and animals.

She also just finished a brand new mural this week at Hotbox Yoga in West Kelowna, where she teaches yoga.
