If you spent some time at Big White this winter, you surely met people from all over the world.

The resort employed nearly 1,000 people who represented 27 different countries and the most represented nation wasn’t even Canada.

Leading the way was Australia with 362 employees, while there were 335 Canadians employed up at the hill.

Other countries well-represented on the list include the United Kingdom (112), New Zealand (58), Germany (56) and Denmark (21).

Joshua Smith, 23, of Brisbane called his second year working at Big White “life changing.”

“I came over knowing no one and have made more friends that I can count – some that I’ll be friends with for life.”

Smith says he’s used his off days to explore the rest of the Okanagan, aided by the fact that Big White employees are able to ski for free at other B.C. resorts.

The ski season ends in just six days, at which point the international employees will either return home, continue exploring Canada or spend their summer working in tourist destinations like Banff or Blue River.
