Big White Ski Resort isn't just a winter paradise; it’s a summer wonderland too, and Andrew Daly is here to tell us all about it in this edition of the Dirt Report. With a wide array of activities planned for the sunny season, there's something for everyone, including your furry friends.
Dog days of summer
This weekend, Big White is hosting the highly anticipated Dog Days of Summer event. "Dog Days is a big hit here," says Daly. "Anyone with a dog can bring them up. You can actually ride the chairlift with your dog, provided you have a harness. There will be games for dogs in the village, an obstacle course, and lots of fun activities."
What's more, all proceeds from the event will go towards the charity Paws It Forward. "You'll also have the chance to win some prizes and even adopt a dog," adds Daly. "It's a great initiative, and a perfect opportunity to enjoy the mountain with your canine companion."
Bumble on the Bee
Mountain biking enthusiasts, both beginners and veterans, are in for a treat with the Bumble on the Bee event, happening every Saturday at 11 AM. "Bumble Bee is our green trail, ideal for beginners and families," Daly explains. "We gather at 11 in the village for a group ride. Riders dress up as bumblebees, there's face painting, and it's becoming a bit of a cult event."
For advanced riders, Big White has something more challenging in store. "We've got the newly rebuilt Joker Trail," Daly mentions. "It's our hardest and gnarliest jump trail. It's definitely for the more experienced riders looking for an adrenaline rush."
Full mountain access
Big White's trails are almost fully open, offering excellent conditions for biking and hiking. "We're fully open on the mountain, except for some minor work on Stack Deck," says Daly. "The weather up here is cooler than in the valley, making it perfect for outdoor activities."
Easy access and free events
Accessing these exciting activities at Big White is straightforward. "The events are free," Daly points out. "Just come up and hang out in the village. There's plenty to see and do."
Culinary delights and live music
Big White's culinary offerings are also worth mentioning. "We've got several restaurants open," Daly says. "You can get ice cream at the Bull Wheel, sandwiches at the Globe, and fantastic cocktails on the Woods Patio. Plus, we have a great lunch menu available."
The village atmosphere is complemented by live music. "Every Saturday from 2 to 4 PM, we have our live music series," Daly notes. "It's a casual atmosphere with something for everyone."
More summer activities
Aside from biking and hiking, Big White offers disc golf and sightseeing chairlift rides. "The hiking conditions are perfect right now," says Daly. "And if you prefer a more relaxed activity, a sightseeing chairlift ride is only $15."
Join the fun at Big White
With so much happening at Big White this summer, it's the perfect destination for a weekend getaway or a day trip. "There's something for everyone," Daly emphasizes. "Come up, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and take part in the fun activities we have planned."
