The risk of avalanches across the province continues to be high amid warmer forecasts and one local resort saw firsthand the associated dangers this weekend.

On Saturday, three skiers were in the backcountry of Big White Ski Resort and triggered a slide in the Eco Bowl behind the Falcon Chair around 11:30 am.

“Thankfully, all three individuals that were involved are safe,” reads a social media post.

“However, this avalanche was large enough to destroy a motor vehicle.”

According to Avalanche Canada, the slide had a slab width of 100 metres and an approximate run length of one kilometre.

Mountainous regions across BC are seeing “very dangerous avalanche conditions” because of a combination of factors, including the recent warm temperatures.

“Please do not go out of the resort boundaries if you are not prepared and knowledgeable about the conditions and have the proper equipment,” added the resort.
