A woman from the United Kingdom has taken to Facebook to share a selfie of her breast in hopes of helping others.

Lisa Royle found what looked like a very subtle dimple under her breast and thought it was nothing, until she visited her doctor. The little dimples turned out to be a tell-tale sign of breast cancer. The lesser known sign and photo have now gone viral, exactly what the 42-year-old Manchester woman wanted to happen.

“Ok so I never thought I'd post a boob picture on Facebook but I thought I would before it gets chopped off next week,” said Royle in the Facebook post which has been shared more than 70,000 times.

Since posting the photo Royle has undergone a mastectomy and had her breast removed. Her family has set up a “wig fund” to help out Royle as she will need to go through chemo therapy.

“So here it is..... This all that I found on my boob. Very subtle dimples underneath that could easily be missed when we're all rushing round getting ready in a morning. Please take time to look at your boobs. It could save your life,” adds Royle.

The post has sparked conversations around the world as other women have taken the time to do a self-examination, and look for the signs that may not be so commonly known. According to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada, in 2014 an estimated 24,400 women were diagnosed with breast cancer and 5,000 will have died from it. One in nine women is expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime.
