The Mission Group has revealed the list of retailers that will be opening near the Kelowna Airport as early as December 2016.
Alex Polacco, vice president of Mission Group-commercial, said the food store Nesters Market is the “anchor tenant” of the Airport Village, retail shopping centre development on Airport Way.
Besides the grocer, they'll also have a liquor store, a pharmacy, a medical centre, a Tim Horton's and a Great Clips. But, that’s not all.
"We're working with a couple of other national tenants that we'll be able to announce very soon so we're very happy about the way the project has leased,” said Polacco. "It's like one-stop shopping.”
In total, the centre will be about 40,000 square feet and it is already 80 per cent leased.
It will lend itself nicely to the area, with residents of Quail Ridge, UBC Okanagan campus and Ellison all in the surrounding airport. Besides that, there is an industrial park, the Airport Business Park, the Four Points by Sheraton across the street and traffic from the airport and surrounding area.
"It's really a centre that services a need that was under-serviced” Polacco explained. "If you're looking to buy anything (now), you're either running up to Lake Country or you're going close to (Highway) 33 and 97.
"I think a lot of people were sceptical at first about a need for a commercial centre in that area, but, I think people were also sceptical about the hotel across the street when it first went in but it's been a huge success.”
