If you’re looking for one last coffee and pastry from Bliss Bakery’s downtown Kelowna location, you’re running out of time.

The coffee shop at the corner of Ellis Street and Cawston Avenue will close its doors for good after business hours on Sunday.

It comes just over a month after owners Darci and Barry Yeo announced the store’s impending closure.

While they cited unsuccessful negotiations with their landlord as a reason for the decision, they also pointed to bigger socioeconomic factors.

That includes economic pressures on small businesses, along with the challenges that come with running a business where homelessness and drug issues are prevalent.

“Our team members have had to deal with situations that are simply unacceptable, including indecent acts, property damages and aggressive behaviour,” Yeo explained in March. “We worry that someone will get hurt in such circumstances.”

Bliss Bakery has asked its customers to share their “moments of bliss” leading up to the downtown location’s final day of operations on Sunday.

While the decision to close was not an easy one, they’re hoping to focus on the positive impact they’ve brought to downtown Kelowna over the past decade.

“We cherish these connections and would love to hear your story,” noted a Facebook post from the Bliss Bakery account.

While the downtown Kelowna location will close after Sunday, you can still visit Bliss Bakery’s West Kelowna and Peachland locations moving forward.
