Even with a smoky haze covering the Okanagan for much of July, it seems Kelowna’s sunshine tax was still in effect.

According to PadMapper’s Canadian Rental Report, Kelowna’s rental market leapfrogged past Calgary to become the 7th most expensive in Canada for August.

According to the data, Kelowna has seen a 14% increase in the price of one bedroom units from this time last year, which works out to a $148.00 jump in rental price. For two bedroom units, Kelowna has seen a 12.7% increase and a $203.00 jump in price.

Here are some results from a search on Craiglist for a one bedroom unit between $1,000 and $1,100:

$1000 - 1 bedroom - 900ft2 - Black Mountain

$1100 - 1 bedroom - 1 bath Suite - West Kelowna Estates

$1100 - 1 bedroom - 1 bath Basement Suite - Rutland North

For those looking for two bedroom units at the $1600 average here are some results from Craigslist:

$1600 - 950ft2 - 2 bedroom - Wilden

$1600 - 1250ft2 - 2 bedroom - 1 bath - Kirchner Mountain

$1600 - 1150ft2 - 2 bedroom - UBCO Area
