Mazda is recalling over 200,000 of its cars in Canada and the United States because of a windshield wiper fault.

The company explained in documents posted Saturday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the recall covers Mazda 3 compact cars from the 2016 through 2018 model years.

Transport Canada said the recall affects more than 51,000 units in Canada.

It said owners can take their vehicle to a dealer to have the front body control module replaced.

The Japanese automaker traced the problem to metal deposits that can cause a wiper relay to stick, knocking out the wipers and limiting driver visibility.

It said it has no reports of crashes or injuries because of the problem.
