Now that Pushor Mitchell Lawyers has celebrated its 50th anniversary, it's now looking forward to excelling over the next half century, too.

Part of the forward-thinking is a new look, new website and new logo for the firm.

"While the brand is new, our values of striving for excellence, supporting community, doing the right thing and putting people first remain core to Pushor Mitchell and its team of lawyers and staff," said managing partner Joni Metherell.

"The firm will continue to provide and enhance its wide-ranging legal services across our many areas of practice."

As such, Pushor Mitchell has become well-known and well-respected in the Interior.

Pushor Mitchell is the largest law firm in BC outside of Vancouver with 40 lawyers and over 100 support staff working out of its multi-level offices at 1665 Ellis St. in Kelowna.

As a full-service firm it specializes in 25 practice areas, including local niches of Indigenous law and wine law.

Of course, Pushor Mitchell also serves clients in all the traditional areas of law, including business, criminal, employment, immigration, wills and estates, family, real estate, estate and commercial litigation, art, securities, personal injury and medical malpractice.

Pushor Mitchell prides itself on not just offering legal knowledge and expertise, but doing so with a 'people-first' approach that customizes and personalizes services to clients while also tapping into the lawyers' and staff's experience, personality and creativity.

The goal is always practical advice and effective solutions.

The firm started small in 1973 on Leon Avenue as Gilhooly Harder with only two lawyers.

In fact, there's been a total of nine name changes since as partners have come and gone.

The name Pushor Mitchell now is after retired partner Richard Pushor and Paul Mitchell, who joined the firm in 1979 and is now a senior partner who practices personal injury.

"In addition to providing trusted advice to clients, the firm has built lasting relationships with charitable, athletic and cultural organizations throughout the Okanagan, helping the community to thrive," said chief operating officer Kara James.

"Pushor Mitchell is exceptionally proud of this work and we look forward to continuing to support many of our incredible local community organizations throughout 2024."

Some of those are the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce, Greater Westside Board of Trade, Urban Development Institute, YMCA, Opera Kelowna and Kelowna Women in Business.

Pushor Mitchell was named Best Law Firm 2023 (its 50th anniversary year) at the Best of Kelowna Awards and Canada's Small and Medium Employer Award last year.
