"Diet cola drinkers in the U.S. told us they wanted aspartame-free Diet Pepsi and we're delivering," said Seth Kaufman, SVP Pepsi and Flavors Portfolio, PepsiCo North America Beverages. "We recognize consumer demand is evolving and we're confident cola-lovers will enjoy the crisp, light taste of this new product."

Aspartame is an artificial sweetener commonly used as a sugar substitute in foods and beverages. It is considered to be safe to consumers at current levels, but many consider it to be a dangerous and harmful product.

Beginning Monday, August 10th all Diet Pepsi, Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi, and Wild Cherry Diet Pepsi will be sweetened with sucralose instead of aspartame. The company will also kick off a marketing an advertising campaign to encourage consumers to try the new diet cola.

There's no word as to if or when Diet Pepsi in Canada will also be available without aspartame.
