1. At least 39 foreigners known to have died in Sri Lanka
Nearly 300 people died in a series of bombings that took place in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday. The country’s minister of tourism has now said that 39 of those victims are foreigners. None of the victims are reported to be Canadian, although eight of them are British citizens.

2. Philippines rocked by an earthquake
Fatalities have been reported in the Philippines after a magnitude-6.3 earthquake shook the country on Monday. The epicentre of the tremor was just a few hundred metres from Gutad, which is about two hours northwest of Manila. At least two people are reported to have been killed so far and there’s been widespread damage as well.

3. Brooke Henderson wins her 8th LPGA title
In her 100th start on the LPGA, Canadian Brooke Henderson secured her eighth victory and her 39th top-10 finish. The 21-year-old is just one win away from becoming the winningest Canadian professional golfer of all time and she shows no signs of slowing down. This weekend’s win at the Lotte Championship was the second year in a row she’s won this tournament.

4. 13 students hospitalized after becoming ‘violently ill’ on flight
Thirteen students and their three chaperones all fell “violently ill” aboard an American Airlines flight from Miami to Boston on Sunday. They were the only ones to get sick on the flight and were taken immediately to hospital once the plane landed at Logan Airport. There’s been no word yet on what might have caused their illnesses.

5. The CRA wrote off $133-million owed by 1 taxpayer
In the first half of 2018, the Canadian Revenue Agency wrote off more than $133-million in taxes that was owed by a single taxpayer. The information was obtained through an internal memo, but a CRA spokesperson refused to identify who the taxpayer was. It’s also unclear on whether it was a person or a corporation.
