1. Germany to ban unvaccinated from public spaces

Germany's chancellor has announced a ban on unvaccinated people from public spaces and a vote on legislation to force the entire population to be vaccinated by next year. Just under 70% of Germany's population is vaccinated against COVID-19.

2. Russia warns of 'nightmare of military confrontation' 

Russia has warned Europe of the "nightmare of military confrontation." It comes amid what NATO has called Russian aggression towards Ukraine.

3. Ghislaine Maxwell lawyers grill accuser in sex trafficking trial

Lawyers for international socialite Ghislaine Maxwell have attempted to find flaws in the testimony of an accuser who said she was abused by Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein. Maxwell is on trial for sex trafficking.

4. 'Home Alone' mansion available to rent on Airbnb

The Chicago mansion that appeared in the 1990 Christmas movie "Home Alone" is set to appear on Airbnb. Guests will be greeted on arrival by Devin Ratray, who played lead character Kevin McCallister's older brother Buzz.

5. Omicron now dominant in South Africa, scientists say

The Omicron variant of COVID-19 has become the dominant strain in South Africa, scientists have said. The variant is driving a sharp increase in infections.
