1. Vigil held for 7 Syrian children who died in Halifax house fire

Family, friends and community members gathered in Halifax square on Wednesday. They were there to pay their respects and provide support for the Syrian refugee family that lost seven children in a house fire earlier this week. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was also in attendance for what was an emotional night.


2. Zion Williamson’s shoe explodes, leaves Duke-UNC game with injury

Duke against North Carolina was one of the most anticipated college basketball games of the year, but it took a major hit just 33 seconds in. Duke’s star freshman Zion Williamson left the game with a knee injury and it came after a strange incident where his shoe literally gave out on him and exploded.


3. Magnitude-5.7 earthquake hits Japanese island

A strong earthquake struck the town of Atsuma in Japan on Thursday. Videos from around the area show visibly shaking, but there was no reported damage or threat of a tsunami. Atusma is located in the north part of the country in Hokkaido’s eastern Iburi region.


4. Breakdancing could feature as a new sport in the 2024 Olympics

The Summer Olympics are heading to Paris and there could be an interesting addition to the lineup of sports. Organizers of the 2024 Games are set to propose that breakdancing be added to the event, along with climbing, surfing and skateboarding. Breakdancing has already made its debut in the Youth Olympics.


5. Eminem is not happy that Netflix cancelled The Punisher

There were plenty of opinions being thrown around after Netflix cancelled The Punisher and Jessica Jones, the streaming service’s final two Marvel series. No one seemed more upset than Eminem, however, as the rapper took to Twitter to tell Netflix in ALL CAPS that they “are blowing it.”
